Kenosha, Wisconsin, April 29, 2005 — With the recent launch of the ScanCheck (MTSC500) scan tool, both independent service shops and technicians now have an easily affordable choice for OBD-II diagnostics from the most famous name in automotive diagnostics, Snap-on®.

Priced under $500.00, ScanCheck is a truly full-function bi-directional scan tool as well as CAN-enabled, letting the technician diagnose all the latest CAN-based vehicles. In addition to diagnosing the OBD-II systems of all 1996 and newer OBD-II compliant Domestic, European and Asian vehicles, ScanCheck also lets the technician access enhanced P code information for GM, Ford and Chrysler vehicles, with more vehicle makes on the way.
A very easy-to-use scan tool, in minutes the technician will be checking the status of the vehicle’s System Readiness tests, reading and clearing hard and pending diagnostic trouble codes, examining live datastream parameter data, looking at freeze frame and O2 sensor test data, monitoring onboard test results, and performing a wide range of other diagnostic tasks.

The diagnostic trouble code descriptions are in plain English, so there’re easily understandable for all levels of technicians. Plus, full Spanish-language support for all ScanCheck’s diagnostic and other functions is built in as standard.

ScanCheck delivers all nine test modes of the latest J1979 OBD-II test specs. Having all nine test modes means the technician is better equipped to diagnose the toughest OBD-II diagnostic problems. Here’s an example: Mode 9 allows the technician to retrieve the VIN number and the calibration number from the vehicle’s PCM. The technician must have this information to confirm whether the vehicle has the latest calibration software update from the vehicle manufacturer. Not only does that information speed the technician’s diagnosis, it ensures he will diagnose the problem correctly the first time.

ScanCheck’s detachable OBD-II diagnostic adapter cable is more than six feet in length, allowing the technician to easily move about the vehicle.

ScanCheck is easily updateable via CD-ROM and a link to a desktop PC using the optional update kit, available later this year. So, the technician will easily be able to keep it current with the latest OBD-II codes, code descriptions and other software updates.

The ScanCheck kit includes the ScanCheck scan tool, the J1962 OBD-II diagnostic cable, a protective storage pouch, a user’s manual on CD-ROM, and a handy Quick Reference Start Guide. The easy-to-follow Quick Reference Start Guide and comprehensive user’s manual will quickly step the technician through everything he needs to know to put the full power of OBD-II diagnostics to use.

Thanks to ScanCheck’s range of diagnostic functionality and affordability, both shops and technicians will return their full investment in no time. Plus, they’ll be able to tackle the toughest OBD-II diagnostic challenges, including diagnosing today’s CAN-based vehicles.

Technicians and customers can find out more about the Blue-Point® ScanCheck (MTSC500) by contacting their local Snap-on representative, visiting www.snapon.com/scancheck or calling toll-free 1-800-779-7716.
